Braunstone History Group and Bosworth Battlefield
Two highly significant moments from our military history were marked in the county in recent weeks and I was honoured to be at both of them.
- Braunstone History Group organised a commemorative event in honour of the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army, whose headquarters were in Braunstone Park in the lead up to the D-Day landings in 1945. I was invited to speak at the event which took place at Braunstone Hall in Leicester. It was a reflective yet uplifting occasion.
- A rose-laying ceremony took place at Bosworth Battlefield on the 540th anniversary of the historic battle – 22 August. I was invited by the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, Councillor Paul Harrison, to be one of those present. We remembered a fallen king, a victorious king and in fact all of those who died in that battle which changed the course of English history. It was very moving indeed.
