War memorials at risk

War memorials are a very important part of our heritage, so I admire and appreciate the work of the Leicester City, County and Rutland At Risk War Memorial Project. I attended the organisation’s open day at its base, All Saints’ Church in Leicester, where I found out more about it. I heard from members including Denis Kenyon about its mission to rescue and relocate war memorials. The team also helps individuals and communities to learn about the history behind the memorials and the names written on them. I commended the organisation for its dedication and thanked them on behalf of the descendants of those named on the memorials they have helped to preserve. The project is run entirely by volunteers, and I know they would welcome more members to join them to help sustain the project in future.
