Sound Café
Leicester’s Sound Café is a creative place for people who are socially isolated, homeless, at risk of becoming homeless or living in vulnerable housing situations in Leicester and Leicestershire. The group holds weekly sessions at St Mary de Castro Church in Leicester and welcomes guests of all faiths and none. Those who go along to meetings have an opportunity to explore their creativity and gain a sense of belonging. I was invited to attend a recent meeting where guests were practising songs from The Sound of Music to be performed in the city centre in December. I gave a short talk to the group about my role as High Sheriff and the history of the uniform I wear, which is from a 300-year-old design called Court Dress. It was a pleasure to attend and find out more about the group’s extremely worthwhile work.
