Anthony Marvin, High Sheriff Award

I travelled to Mountsorrel to present another well-deserved High Sheriff of Leicestershire Award to an unsuspecting recipient.

Anthony Marvin had been nominated by several members of his community for the positive impact he is making in the area. He runs the “mug and mingle”, breaking down loneliness and isolation, offering a chat or extra support if needed.

He is also running youth groups engaging young people in the area and organised “Merry Meals” for families in the village that couldn’t afford to have a Christmas meal this year. He has set up a radio station and is also starting a community allotment.

People like Anthony are the backbone in the community, and they also are the catalyst for others to volunteer. Thank you.
