It was my pleasure to recently attend a ceremony for the Appointment of Justices of the Peace. Thank you to the newly appointed JP’s for volunteering to undertake this important role, and I know you will find it rewarding and interesting.
“I will well and truly serve our Sovereign King Charles the Third, in the office of Justice of the Peace and I will do right to all manner of people after the laws and usages of the Realm without fear or favour, affection or ill will”
Justices of the Peace (JP’s or Magistrates) are volunteers and are ordinary people who work in all sorts of fields and may have no previous connection to the law profession but undergo mandatory training before sitting in court.
Anyone, who fits the requirements, can apply to be a magistrate – check out https://magistrates.judiciary.uk/what-is-a-magistrate/
