Holocaust Memorial Day – “Fragility of Freedom”

Professor Aubrey Newman gave a fascinating address on this year’s theme for Holocaust Memorial Day, “Fragility of Freedom”.

There was also moving music from cellist Caroline Salinger and insights on “Fragility of Freedom” by students from English Martyrs’ Catholic School and Madani Schools Federation.

Thank you to all who took part in this reflective and thought-provoking commemoration. Thank you also to the organising committee and De Montfort University for hosting the event.
Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is the international day on 27th January to remember the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of people murdered under Nazi persecution of other groups and during more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Dafur.
27th January marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
Each year a theme is chosen, for 2024 it is “Fragility of Freedom”.
