John Storer House, Loughborough

The Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Margaret Smidowicz, gave me the opportunity to visit the John Storer House Community and Volunteer Centre, Loughborough, where I witnessed the amazing services and support they offer to our community. From well-being activities to transport assistance, a café, shop and much more, they truly cater to diverse needs. The John Storer House is an important hub and focus for many local groups.

During my visit, I had the pleasure of meeting some extraordinary individuals like Vivien Holmes and Eileen Henderson from the Cancer Self-Help Group Loughborough. Their dedication to supporting help other to help themselves through challenging times is truly inspiring.

Additionally, I had the honour of meeting Chris Curtis, the CEO and founder of The Swallows Head & Neck Cancer Charity. The Swallows Charity provides invaluable support to all those affected by head and neck cancer, offering a 24/7 patient line and caregiver support service manned by real people who truly care.

One remarkable initiative by the Swallows Charity is their advocacy for HPV vaccinations for boys and girls aged 12-13. By encouraging vaccination, they aim to prevent certain types of oropharyngeal cancers associated with HPV infection, further highlighting their commitment to cancer prevention and support.

It was a humbling experience to witness the dedication and impact of these organizations and individuals. Let’s continue to support each other and these vital services in our community!
