Kings Award Shama Centre

It was a privilege to accompany the Lord Lieutenant Mike Kapur as he presented a Kings Award to the Shama Centre.

The Kings Award signifies organisations that excel at international trade, innovation, sustainable development or promoting opportunity (through social mobility). They are the highest official UK awards for British organisations.

CEO Khudeja Amer-Sharif said she was “delighted” and “thrilled” for everyone involved in the organisation. 

The centre was given the award, along with 230 other recipients on King Charles’ birthday in November.

Based in Sparkenhoe Street, the centre has been open for 37 years and has helped more than 45,000 women to become more active in their community.

on a lovely day guests were invited to take part in cake decorating hair beading and educational presentations delivered by volunteers at the centre.
