Magistrates visit to Warning Zone

The High Sheriff invited magistrates to have a very enlightening visit to the charity Warning Zone who are dedicated to teaching life-skills and safeguarding children and help keep them out of the criminal justice system.

Warning Zone’s mission is to deliver life-saving messages to children aged 10-11, catching them on a key transition in their lives as they venture into secondary schools, where they will meet new friends and are introduced to new experiences. https://warningzone.org.uk/

The magistrates (Justices of the Peace, JP’s) who visited Warning Zone are youth magistrates who deal with young people aged 10 to 17 in the Youth Court. Magistrates are volunteers and are ordinary people who work in all sorts of fields and have no previous connection to the law profession and undergo mandatory training of about three and a half days before sitting in court. Anyone, who fits the requirements, can apply to be a magistrate – check out https://magistrates.judiciary.uk/what-is-a-magistrate/
