Nick Toms, High Sheriff Award for his dedication to the village of Barkby

Barbky villagers nominated Nick for an award because they said every village needs a Nick.   Residents gathered to see me spring a surprise presentation of the High Sheriff of Leicestershire Award on Nick.

Nick has always quietly but effectively dedicated his time to the village. He has been instrumental in village celebrations and commemorations, marking the millennium in 2000, the Jubilees of 2010, 2020, VE and VJ day, Remembrance and many more. Whenever there is a ‘call out’ for help, from litter picking to washing and putting up miles of bunting or hanging a 10ft poppy, painting, digging, erecting beacons, flags, moving woodchip and so much more, Nick is always there.

Being creative and practical he is always called for designing or making, from a 6 ft Rook to individual village signs that were designed, cast and painted.….the list is endless.

Congratulations Nick, yet another well-deserved award for an unsung hero in the community.
