Pauline Kirk High Sheriff Award for supporting carers

Pauline was nominated for a High Sheriff of Leicestershire Award by VASL for whom she has volunteered with the Support for Carers Project for 10 years.

Her contribution is described as invaluable and Pauline as being welcoming and supportive. She gives her time so willingly to so many carers throughout the county.

She makes a massive difference to the carers with her regular phone calls and takes the time to listen and offer support and advice.

Research by the Carers UK charity in 2022 estimated unpaid carers contribute an annual £162bn to the economy. This is compared to an estimated £164bn in funding for the NHS in 2020/21.

Pauline was particularly active with phone calls during Covid at a time when carers were struggling more than usual and spent many hours calling carers. She has taken the time to visit carers and cared for in hospital and supports with running a monthly carers group on a Sunday in Market Harborough and supports the careers project at another carers group in the Harborough district.

It was my privilege to give Pauline Kirk a High Sheriff of Leicestershire Award in recognition of great and valuable services to the community. The award also recognises the appreciation of the residents and people Leicestershire for activity and contribution in enhancing the life of the community.
