Sikh Welfare & Cultural Society and SK Foundation UK Lunch

The High Sheriff had the pleasure in attending a special lunch in Leicester, organised by the Sikh Welfare and Cultural Society, and SK Foundation UK to commentate the 175th anniversary of the end of the 2nd Anglo Sikh wars.

It was an opportunity to learn about the history surrounding the Battle of Gujrat and to honour the fallen soldiers.

The lunch started with a fascinating talk given by Bobby Singh Bansal about the period and why the Anglo Sikh wars occurred. Bobby has spent a considerable time researching the subject and had even arranged for representatives from the British Army to attend whose Regiments had originally fought at the Battle. It was also an opportunity to remember those Sikhs who had fallen in both World Wars fighting alongside British and Commonwealth soldiers.

My thanks Bobby and Resham Singh Sandhu for organising the event.
