Sir John Moore Primary School and Foundation Museum

I had the pleasure of visiting the Sir John Moore Primary School and Sir John Moore Foundation Museum at Appleby Magna.

The school council gave me an excellent tour of the school, showing me round each of their classrooms the play areas.  They also showed me the historic main hall with the statue of Sir Thomas Moore and panelling made from the tops of desks carved with names of previous pupils dating back to the 18th century.

I had the pleasure of speaking to the whole school at their assembly about the role of the High Sheriff and my Grocers Company links to the school as Sir John Moore was Master of the Grocers Company in 1671.  Afterwards there were lots of really thoughtful questions by everyone.

I then met with Sonia and other volunteers and trustees at the Sir John Moore Foundation Museum where I was given a very informative presentation by Fred.  We had an interesting discussion about the history of the school and its link the with Grocers Company.

I heard how hard the heritage group are working to preserve the history and records of the school and thanked them for their diligent work before touring the museum.

Thank you for a fun, engaging and informative visit.
