VE Day

I was honoured to attend events held to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day earlier this month. A very special remembrance service took place at Leicester Cathedral on Thursday 8 May. Led by the Dean of Leicester, the Very Revd Karen Rooms, and attended by veterans, members of the armed forces and cadets as well as dignitaries from Leicester and Leicestershire, it was a truly uplifting occasion.

I was also invited to read a lesson at the open air ‘Thanksgiving for Victory’ service arranged as part of the Desford Heritage group’s two-day VE 80 celebration over the weekend of 3 and 4 May. Fallen members of the Desford community were remembered and scrolls were presented to their relatives by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Colonel Richard Hurwood.
