Visit to Leicester Synagogue and Heritage Centre

I had the pleasure of visiting the Leicester Hebrew Congregation Synagogue and Heritage Centre and learnt about Leicester’s Jewish community and its history.

Thank you so much to Laurie and Ian for giving me a really informative and interesting tour of the historic Synagogue. Working with a diverse range of communities and religious groups the Synagogue has welcomed many visitors from across the UK. As well as going out to schools and organisations they host approximately 3 visits a week from schools at their Heritage Centre as part of the curriculum. The groups learn about different faiths and to foster better comprehension about the differing religions. It has been so successful they recently passed 6,000 visitors to the building since a major refurbishment and grant by the National Lottery to help explain the history of the community and building.

Leicester is fortunate to have so many people from different faiths and backgrounds who want to work together and promote better understanding and stronger links between the communities in Leicestershire. Thank you.
